Hey there! In this blog post, I’ll be discussing the various steps used to create this beautiful arched doorway. We’ll talk about the materials used, the drawing process, colour palette and finally the painting process. If you don't have all the materials or simply want to do bits and pieces of this piece, definitely go ahead with the same. You can switch up the materials I have used here and make it into a pencil shading piece/ acrylic painting or even a poster painting.

Lets Draw

Drawing this piece is very easy. I have divided the process into four simple steps. Attached below are all the four steps with instructions. I have drawn this piece out directly onto my A5 Watercolour Paper. If you want to see me draw this piece in real time, I have a YouTube Video with the same. (https://youtu.be/Z7TduP3VliE)

Step 1: Start off with two simple base lines. Over the first one, add in two such arched shapes in order to create the structure of the door.

Step 2: Just add in the detailing for the door like shown below.

Step 3: To the left of the door, erase a little bit of the top line. Add in a simple potted plant like shown below. You can switch up the plant depending on what you like.

Step 4: To the right of the door, add in a basic tree with several branches coming out.

Colour Guide and Painting Process

Attached below is a colour guide to all the shades and tones I have used to create this piece. Im going to walk you through the painting process by dividing each area by colour. If you want to watch me paint this in real time, I will soon have a Youtube Video up with the same. I painted the piece in the following order: 1. Door, Wall, Plant, Tree, Flowers and Greens, Pathway.

Note: When I mention shade, i particularly mean one of the three shades of a colour and when I mention tone, I mean the tones of a gradation.

Yellows for the Wall: To paint the wall, i firstly started off with the lighter shade all over the background. Next, I added in the darker yellow shade to the edges. Finally, I added in a orange-yellow shade to complete the edges.

Blue for the Door: To paint the door, I again started off with the lighter shade of blue. I next added in the medium shade and blended it out. To finally finish it off, I added in the darker shade but avoided blending to create a shadow.

Greens for the Plants: In order to paint the potted plant, I simply added in the shades of green without blending each layer in.

Brown for the Trunk: To paint the tree trunk, I started with the lightest and ended with the darkest brown. I made sure to add the darker colours on the edges and blended each layer.

Pink and Green for the Tree: At random, I used the various shades of pink and green to dot on the edges of each branch.

Greys for the Pathway: I finished up the piece by adding in grey shades to all the remaining areas. Namely the pathway and around the door. Go from the lightest to the darkest like always.

If you have any further questions on how to create this piece, comment below and let me know. You can also connect with me on my various social media platforms. Thank you!

Happy Arting!
