Lets Draw

Drawing this piece is extremely simple. I have divided the process into four simple steps. Attached below are all the four steps with instructions. I have drawn this piece out directly onto my A5 Watercolour Paper. If you want to see me draw this piece in real time, I have a YouTube Video with the same.

Step 1: Start off with two upward lines for the stem and a big "U" for the main flower.

Step 2: Add one leaf vertically, part of it on the stem and the other on the "U". Next, add in two leaves on either side of the stem. Make sure to join each leaf to the stem. Finally add center lines to complete the leaves.

Step 3: Add two leaves on either side of the flower, these will be thinner than the others as they face the flower. The center lines will also not be visible. The last leaf starts at the center of the vertical leaf and moves to the right. Don't forget to add in the center lines for this one.

Step 4: The drawing process for the flower is fairly simple. Start by drawing two curved lines almost forming a triangle for each petal. You will start at the bottom and build up your petals. As you go up, try making your petals larger than the earlier.

Colour Guide and Painting Process

Attached below is a colour guide. I have four shades of green and three shades of pink. I will first be discussing the painting process of the leaves and then the flower itself. If you want to see me paint this in real time, check out my YouTube Video on the same.

Green for the Leaves: I started off by painting the center lines with the lightest green. While painting with watercolour, we always start with the lightest and then move to the darker shades. Next, we will take the light green shade and add it all over. Medium and darker shades of green are added only in the areas that need a shadow or are used to bring out the highlights. Wherever there are over lapping leaves, the section that is under, will get a darker tone merged out with a medium tone. If a leaf has nothing over it, then on one side, add in a medium shade to create contrast.

Pink for the Petals: Like I mentioned above, we start off with lighter shades in watercolour and hence I started off the petals by adding a light pink base. The medium and dark shades of pink are simply used to create the concept of shadows. Whenever one petal is on another, the tip of the petal on top will be light whereas the section below will always be darker. I have blended out the medium shades slightly but to give it a petal feel, I have left the darker shades as is.

I hope this blog post helped you out in some way! Check out my YouTube Videos to better understand the step by step process better. If you have any further questions, leave a comment down below or find me on Instagram.

Happy Arting!
